Fandom Games Round 1: OTP Fighting

Road trips aren’t always as enjoyable as a person may believe. The art of compromise is often the greatest necessity, along with a range of topics that would keep conversation flowing. Of course, it was just Tony’s luck that Loki lacked one of those skills.

“Can you please stop changing the station?” Tony asked, annoyed as usual as Loki once again turned off his Metallica and switched it to a modern hits radio station. It wasn’t that he didn’t like the music they played – in fact the song Counting Stars by OneRepublic was the current song blasting out of the convertible’s speakers, and Tony had taken a slight liking to it – but he just wished that Loki wouldn’t switch stations mid-verse.

“And listen to that ghastly noise you call music?” He retorted; his nose crinkling in disgust. “I couldn’t bear to listen to that for another minute.” Of course, that was a complete lie. Loki never minded Tony’s music choice. In fact, he was growing accustom to it. He’d listen for it to alert him that Tony was home, and it gave him a little bit of security. But Tony trying to sing – well, scream – along was becoming unbearable. And Loki, despite his rude behavior before he found he fancied Tony, didn’t have the heart to tell him.

“At least the lyrics made sense back when that music was recorded!” Tony said, switching it back. Loki growled at him, changing it once again. “Must you always do this?”

“Yes.” Loki said, tapping his foot to the rhythm of the song that had just changed. Tony sighed. Another hour in a car with Loki seemed unbearable at this point.

“Look, why don’t we, I don’t know, find something we both like.” Tony asked. Loki gave him a confused look, cocking an eyebrow at him. It wasn’t like Tony to offer such a thing, or even to take the first step into a compromise, and that caught him off guard a bit.

“Can I pick anything?” Loki asked, conjuring a pile of various CDs in his lap. Most of them were albums belonging to Green Day, Panic! At The Disco, and surprisingly, one of the earlier My Chemical Romance ones as well. There were others Loki didn’t recognize, so he tossed them into a pile. Tony nodded, but then he spoke up.

“Anything but jazz or blues… and I’ve had enough Elvis for a lifetime.” Loki smiled wickedly. Their trip to Memphis had been a blast for him, but Tony had ended up annoyed as always, and so they decided that Nashville was looking like a much nicer view. Of course, that wasn’t the case when they had gotten there. Tony added that to the list of places never to take Loki again. Reason: Country music.

“Okay, how about… this one?” he asked, waving the album Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin at Tony.

“Eh, they’re okay…” Tony said. Loki sighed dramatically.

“Please tell me you’re going to appeal to my music taste, Stark.” Loki only called him Stark when he was getting annoyed. Tony shifted as he changed lanes.

“Just pick something I would like.” He said, trying to focus on driving and not hitting the car in front of him. Loki looked through the albums and smiled. Popping in a CD into the player, he flipped tracks until he found the one he was looking for. Tony raised an eyebrow at him.

“What are you doing?” he asked. Loki grinned at him.

“Just listen to it. You’ll like it, I promise.”

“Why don’t I believe you?” he asked as Loki chuckled. The music had started, and now it was time for Loki to come through.

“I swear if you’re–” Tony cut himself off when he heard the familiar words ring out, but by an unfamiliar voice. “What is this?”

“Panic! At The Disco’s version of “Carry on My Wayward Son” by Kansas.” Loki said with a small but proud smile. “I thought that it’d be something you like, and something I like.”

Tony gave Loki a look. “Why didn’t you think of that sooner?” he asked. Loki smirked.

“You’re amusing when you get annoyed.”
