The USS Enterprise encounters the planet Azranea during their five year mission. The planet containing alien life is in danger as the core is destabilizing. Starfleet regulations states that they cannot interfere only observe and this planet is not a part of the Federation. While Spock wants to stick to regulation and is concerned with the safety of the crew, Kirk is determined not to let thousands of innocent lives be lost.
